somewhere in july, i came across this pdf that contains 190 pages of mosque/surau/institution's qr code for e-derma/donation (there are around 500 total qrs i think).
i thought, why not we build a centralized directory to list all these qrs? i then created a repository, built a simple layout, and snipped the qr one by one to display it. i abandoned it after 6 qrs because i was too lazy to continue (average pet project experience). refer below image:
until one day, i saw hazqeel's post on x where he started a thread with the hashtag #qrsejid and uploaded some qr from his gallery. others have also started to crowdsource and contribute to the thread. hence, i have decided to give this project a go again.
i decided to pull up v0 and claude to 'speedrun' this project on a random friday. over the weekend, it started to gain some attention, and the tech community from x began to contribute ideas and suggestions. after some public contributions, here is how it looked like:
then, altaf suddenly reached out to me saying that he has bought 2 domains (around rm80) for me to host the app. thats when i thought, ah this is becoming something serious now haha.
until now, there are already 22 contributors who 'cooked' to enhance sedekahje. 104 prs closed with 9 ongoing issues active on my repo. i cant thank them enough for being willing to spend their free time contributing. this is not my project anymore, this is ours (insert communist bug bunny meme).
i hope it'll ease people to make donations anytime and anywhere, like when you go to the mosque for friday prayers but forgot to bring some cash or couldn't find the qr. now, you can even sadaqah when you wake up for fajr prayer.
currently, we have around 700+ qrs collected (farhan helmy contributed 189 using opencv & ocr). there are two ways you can contribute, one is by forking my repo, or submit the institutions data directly using this google form.
feel free to visit https://sedekahje.com/ and try it out! let me know if you have any feedbacks or suggestions.
